Buchman: Outside golfer thinks Sun City golf rise is too much

Posted

I am currently a nonresident golf pass member and have heard about the concerns of residents about tee times that they believed were being taken by nonresidents.

This is the first that I heard about Sun City residents being upset about nonresidents not paying sufficiently higher annual passes. Personally I don’t have a problem with an increase, but $500 is quite a huge increase. This increase with, the fact that all of us nonresidents have to travel longer distances to get to these courses and incur the wrath of higher gas prices, makes me think that this price increase is way too high.

I know quite a few nonresidents like myself and I can assure you that it wouldn’t be out of the question that you may lose at least a third of us. As you know, nonresidents provide quite an economic boost to Sun City courses. Somewhere close to $400,000 dollars. I am speculating but believe there are around 150 nonresident pass holders. If only around 22 of them decide they will not renew their membership, Sun city courses will actually lose money with this $500 increase. I’m pretty sure that it may go as high as 50 people.

That is a lot of revenue lost that will eventually have to be passed down to Sun City residents. Just food for thought for board members and residents who think this increase is fair and needed.
