Abrazo Health hospitals across the Valley, including Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, 18701 N. 67th Ave., invited local first responders as well as hospital staff to enjoy burgers, hot dogs and other treats grilled and served by hospital leaders Nov. 17.

Abrazo’s “Community Built on Heroes” events were designed to show gratitude and thanks to front line health care workers and first responders during the most challenging time of their professional lives, the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Abrazo West Campus CEO Stephen Garner.

As the pandemic continues, Abrazo Health leaders wanted to let hospital staff, providers and first responders know that their work is appreciated, he explained.

Even during the pandemic, emergencies happen, people get sick and need care, and babies don’t stop coming into the world. Abrazo Health leaders created this opportunity to show gratitude and thanks for the sacrifices made by front line caregivers during the most challenging time of their professional lives, explained Abrazo Chief Executive Officer Brian Elisco.

“These health care heroes, inside our hospitals and out in the community, have been working under very stressful conditions protecting our public health. We wanted to have a public show of support of their efforts. This is an opportunity to spread goodwill and positivity for health care workers and first responders,” said Elisco. “Our colleagues in the health care community have been under tremendous stress, yet these unselfish heroes are committed to their mission day in and day out.”

Abrazo’s hospital buildings were illuminated with teal blue lighting that week to show public appreciation and gratitude for those who care in times of greatest need.

“Our health care heroes are working in a challenging, yet a very rewarding field. They are essential to providing excellent patient care. We understand that health care is a challenging job during these current times. Abrazo is committed to providing a supportive, safe environment for our patients, staff and providers,” Elisco said.

Community Built on Heroes events were conducted at Abrazo Arrowhead Campus, 18700 N. 67th Ave., Glendale; Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital, 1930 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix; Abrazo Central Campus, 2000 W. Bethany Home Road, Phoenix; Abrazo Scottsdale Campus, 3929 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale; Abrazo Surprise Hospital, 16815 W. Bell Road, Surprise; and Abrazo West Campus, 13677 W. McDowell Road, Goodyear.
