Litchfield Park zoo and aquarium open regular hours on the holiday

Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park’s animals receive a special Thanksgiving feast each year, just like humans, and they’re always up for a visit from friends on the holiday.

Keepers within the park start preparing for the festivities days in advance to ensure all of Wildlife World’s residents have a lot of fun and creative enrichment, along with delicious culinary creations to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day, according to a release from the Litchfield Park zoo, which is home to more than 600 species and 6,000 animals.

Daily diet preparation starts hours before the park opens, with employees chopping more than 300 pounds of fresh produce and preparing more than 500 pounds of dry feed and 160 pounds of meat every morning before the gates open to the public.

“Everyone here looks forward to Thanksgiving because we have so much fun spoiling our animals”, senior keeper Jamie Maurer said in a prepared statement.

Thanksgiving morning, Wildlife World’s big cats and other carnivores look forward to special entrees, including ribs and Cornish hens, while others, like the baboons and bears, get delicacies like pumpkin pie.

Wildlife World Zoo, Aquarium & Safari Park, 16501 W. Northern Ave., Litchfield Park, is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 365 days a year, including holidays, with last admission at 5 p.m.
