Vintage Vehicles Club stays active this summer

Despite the long, hot summer, members of the Vintage Vehicles Club of Sun City are still going strong at its new shop, located at the Grand Center.

During the fall, winter and spring, there are as many as 12 vehicles being worked on in the inside and outside bays. As the shop is not air conditioned, the summer heat can make it hazardous for seniors to work on old cars during the afternoon, when the temperature in the shop reaches into the high 80s.

Nevertheless, members have as many as seven or eight vehicles being worked on in the morning during the summer. Eventually, air conditioning is hoped to be installed as was originally planned.

This amenity continues to draw people to Sun City and shows foresight by RSCS to have planned and built it.

This year, because of the large shop and large doors, the group has been able to accommodate several members motor homes and trailers to work on.

One of the more interesting projects members are undertaking is assembling pieces of a Model T into a full car. The car was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Osman of Sun City. The car came with a complete set of full size diagrams for all the wood parts and one of the skilled members is manufacturing all the wood parts. When he returns in the fall, the club will attempt to put together the car. It presently is mocked up in the shop.

In order to raise money to cover shop expenses, the club has held raffles of automobiles over the years at the annual car show. This year, members are building a custom golf car to raffle. The club received a donation of a Club Car chassis thanks to Scott McIntosh at Southwest Golf Cars in Youngtown.
