Sun City Sunland Memorial Park is providing coffee and donuts 9 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month to any veteran who wishes to attend. Terri Flowers, veteran relations representative from Dignity Memorial Funeral Homes of Phoenix, provides this service to recognize, honor and thank veterans for their service.

On April 12, Sun City National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Agua Fria Chapter members Shirley Staggs, Honorary Chapter Regent, and Kathie Mittelsteadt, Chapter Parliamentarian, presented veteran Bill Witthans with a Vietnam War era 50th anniversary commemorative lapel pin, a button, a magnet, a brochure that explains the meaning of the symbols on the pin and a “thank you for your service” letter from the chapter.

United States flag pins were also given to veterans who were present and each veteran was asked to introduce themselves, tell what branch or branches of military service they were in and something about their service.

The Sun City NSDAR chapter has become a commemorative partner with the U.S. Department of Defense. The DOD began the commemorative project to thank all U.S. military veterans who served between Nov. 1, 1955, through April 15, 1975, regardless of location. Any organization may join the Commemoration Partners Program by visiting VietnamWar50th.com.
