Buckeye's Verrado Middle School to get new principal

Anthony Paduano’s appointment pending June 6 board approval

As Litchfield Elementary School District transitions to the 2022 academic year, L. Thomas Heck Middle School Assistant Principal Anthony Paduano is preparing for a transition of his own.

If the LESD Governing Board approves his appointment June 8, Mr. Paduano will become principal of Verrado Middle School in Buckeye on Thursday, July 1, replacing Principal Karen Williams, who is leaving to pursue career advancement at the high school level, according to a release.

Mr. Paduano has six years of administrative experience and has served the past three years as L. Thomas Heck’s assistant principal. As an administrator, he has served as a dean of students, athletic director, 504 coordinator and STEM coach.

He also brings eight years of teaching experience to the job, with stints in sixth grade math, science, reading and social studies.

Mr. Paduano holds a master’s degree in education and a postgraduate degree in educational leadership and administration.

“Mr. Paduano is a calm and confident leader. He was instrumental in our effective response to COVID and our successful re-opening of schools. We are certain that he is ready to further the Mighty Mustang legacy of excellence,” LESD Superintendent Jodi Gunning said.

Since opening in 2004 as Verrado’s first school, Verrado Middle School has been a leader in the A-rated elementary school district’s family of award-winning schools, the release stated. In addition to gorgeous mountain views and stunning architecture, Verrado Middle School is especially known for its academic achievement, winning athletic program and enthusiastic parent teacher organization.

“Verrado Middle School has an excellent reputation throughout the district and our community,” Mr. Paduano said. “I am excited for the opportunity to focus on building strong relationships and continue to promote academic excellence. This is already a close-knit school family, and I’m honored to be among the ranks of Mustangs who are deeply committed to student success!”

“The Southwest Valley is one of the fastest growing communities in the country. Every day, we are working hard to attract and retain the best talent that our state has to offer so we can keep up with the growth and continue the quality education that has become the hallmark of our district,” Ms. Gunning said. “We are proud of our impressive staff retention rates and are committed to keeping the best and brightest teaching in our schools. Mr. Paduano certainly fits that description, and we are pleased to have him at Verrado Middle School.”

Mr. Paduano’s current position is open to internal and external applicants.
