Vargo: Was electric-car business in state plan for land near Gold Canyon?

After reading your article (“Gold Canyon residents reject state land plans,” a cover story in the September 2021 issue), I thought there was more to the state land sale in Gold Canyon.
What the state land sales personnel did not disclose is it appears there was a start-up electric vehicle company that was the potential buyer for the property. After the ruckus at the meeting in Gold Canyon the state’s potential buyer decided they would build in other areas. Texas and Great Britain appear to be more welcoming for the factory location.
Also there is an issue with the building of a large solar farm on the west side of U.S. Highway 60.
None of this information was discussed or even brought up during the Gold Canyon meeting. It would be interesting if the state land personnel would confirm if these things were really behind the sale of the property.
