Tempe firefighter honored with statewide award

Jason Dean named ‘Firefighter of the Year’

A Tempe firefighter was honored with the Firefighter of the Year award at the 100 Club of Arizona’s annual ‘Boots & Badges’ fundraiser on April 2.

Jason Dean from Tempe Fire Medical Rescue earned the statewide distinction for his efforts at the Chandler print shop explosion in August. Dean, who was off-duty at the time, saved three men who were severely burned at Platinum Printing.

Officer Danny Leon of the Tucson Police Department earned the Police Officer of the Year award at the same event for his life-saving efforts at a July shooting.

Tempe Fire Medical Rescue honored Dean with a tribute on Facebook and congratulated him for the award.

“He set up triage, evacuated the building and area, all while communicating this to 911 dispatch,” the post read.

The event was held at The Farm at South Mountain with dinner, drinks and live entertainment honoring first responders.

The 100 Club of Arizona is a nonprofit organization supporting officers and firefighters across the state.
