A West Point Elementary School student was arrested for posting threateing messages to a social media account.
Surprise Police said the 14-year-old student posted “I will shoot up the school” on Jan. 10.
A Dysart Unified School District official noticed the message and alerted police.
Police said there are no other current threats to the school.
“This type of activity is not funny, it’s not a joke or a prank,” said Surprise Police Chief Benny Pina in a statement. “Threats of violence against our schools will not be tolerated, if you make a threat against our schools we will find you, and you will be arrested.”
The teen suspect was arrested and booked into the into the Durango Juvenile Detention Center on a count of Interference with or Disruption of an Educational Institution, a Class 6 felony, and one count of Making a Terrorist Threat, a Class 3 felony.
