Woman accused of shooting father at home in Surprise
Posted
Independent Newsmedia
A woman was arrested after she allegedly shot her father at his home in Surprise.
Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Surprise police responded to a shooting in a neighborhood northeast of Waddell and Reems roads. Records state they received two calls, one from the alleged shooter who said she shot her father because he was being abusive, and another from the victim's wife, who said her daughter shot her husband.
Responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police said he was alert and speaking with emergency personnel. He was then taken to a hospital for treatment. Court documents state he underwent surgery and was intubated.
According to records, police were told by the victim's wife that they had been arguing throughout the day. However, the wife changed her story multiple times.
Police state the couple's daughter, identified as Samantha Lynn White, 22, had known her parents were arguing throughout the day but made no attempts to call police prior to the shooting. According to records, she messaged her husband and told him she may have to shoot her father because he was acting crazy.
Despite claims that Ms. White and her father got into a physical argument, police did not note any signs of trauma on Ms. White, records state.
Police said other occupants of the residence were present and it appears all people involved have been accounted for.
Ms. White was jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bond on two counts of aggravated assault. Her next court date is May 5.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Police were unable to speak with the victim as he was unconscious following surgery at the hospital. Records state police are hoping to speak with him Tuesday depending on his condition.
