Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club donates $30K to food bank

Independent Newsmedia
Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club has donated $30,000 to the Superstition Community Food Bank in Apache Junction.
Members of the private golf club have become known over the years for actively supporting their surrounding community and this recent donation comes at a critical time for the Apache Junction food bank. This gift is the largest single donation Superstition Community Food Bank has ever received, according to a release.
Superstition Community Food Bank offers assistance to individuals and families in need in Gold Canyon, Apache Junction, northwest Pinal County and east Mesa.
The donation will allow the food bank to meet its goal of providing two holiday meals – one in November and one in December — to more than 1,000 people. These meals include a turkey, side dishes and extra provisions for future use.
“Giving back to our community is one of Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club’s core pillars and I am humbled by the compassion and generosity of our members, staff and ownership,” Mark Gurnow, general manager of Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, said in the release. “Superstition Community Food Bank is a wonderful organization doing great work throughout the year, not just during the holiday season.”
Founded in 1983, the nonprofit Superstition Community Food Bank acts as an emergency food bank and long-term partner to help people develop lasting food security. Many of its clients are among Arizona’s “working poor,” those who have jobs but still struggle to make ends meet. The organization is dedicated to providing food to hungry people through an efficient food distribution model and, perhaps most importantly, do so with kindness, respect and dignity, the release states.
“This year, more so than ever, the Superstition Community Food Bank will play an enormous role in ensuring that local families have happy and memorable holidays,” Apache Junction Mayor Jeff Serdy said in the release. “Through no fault of their own many people in our community have lost their jobs and need a little help to get back on their feet. I cannot thank Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club enough for stepping up and coming to the rescue.”
Located at the foot of the Superstition Mountains in Gold Canyon, Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club is a private club offering both golf and social memberships. The luxury, guard-gated community features village-style neighborhoods, award-winning homes and two Nicklaus Design golf courses.
