An awards luncheon was held Saturday, April 17, at Flatiron Park to announce the winner of a logo contest for Apache Junction’s drug-prevention coalition, StandUp AJ. The event was catered by H.O.P.E. Cafe and Other Side Ministries.

Noelle Parent was the winner of the logo contest and received a $150 gift card.

Other prizes awarded were:

  • Runners up ($100 gift card): Kylee McDonald and Ammon Seiter.
  • Finalists ($50 gift card): Gabriel (Xander) Embury, Elizabeth Carlos Fierro and Quetzalcoatl Pablos Arguelles.
  • Honorable mention ($25 gift card): Tori Mistico and Eliana Rose Carranza.

“I want to thank Mike Harding and Pat Smith for attending the awards luncheon and helping to represent the coalition,” Apache Junction resident Shelly Verley, StandUp AJ’s coordinator, said.

“Thank you to Vanessa Hammond for creating some very eye-catching flyers for the contest and for being willing to help take them around to schools. I also want to thank Mr. Harding for all the help with the contest and luncheon. Throughout the entire process, Mr. Harding was only a call or text away when something needed to be done and even brought extra tables, chairs and shade tents from his church to help make the event much more pleasant,” she said.

“The event was just lovely. The weather was perfect, the food was awesome, and the company was warm and friendly. It was such a pleasure to honor the work of the up-and-coming artists,” Ms. Verley said.

StandUp AJ recently received a nine-month $96,594 state opioid response grant that includes mentoring from Tempe coalition members.
