Shaw: Caregivers key to fighting COVID-19

Posted

Older adults, with diminished immune systems due to aging and with pre-existing conditions, are much more vulnerable to COVID-19 than the general population.

In-home caregivers can help prevent the transmission of the virus to the elderly happening now at busy facilities and at hospitals stretched to capacity.

Arizona In-Home Care Association is a hub connecting businesses and caregivers with resources to help them stay safe during this outbreak.

We are actively hosting webinars, assisting members with the difficult task of sourcing personal protection equipment, posting legislative updates and disseminating critical training materials on disease prevention.

Caregivers also provide companionship. Loneliness is a common problem for the elderly and social distancing has made this issue much worse for many older adults. Having someone to talk to is reassuring during these very uncertain times.

Caregivers are the heroes that keep our loved ones at home and out of harm’s way.

They are the first line of defense against this pandemic.

Without caregivers providing services to this highly vulnerable population our hospital system would be even more burdened than it already is.
