Scottsdale Fire Department’s technical rescue teams on Wednesday afternoon rescued a dog that was showing signs of heat exhaustion from the Tom’s Thumb Trailhead.
A woman was hiking on the trail with two dogs at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, and was about three-quarters of the way from the trailhead, firefighters said.
Diego, a 125 German shepherd, was showing signs of heat exhaustion when paramedics arrived.
They started cooling down and rehydrating the animal and carried him down a steep part of the trail. The hiker and dogs were taken off the trail in a UTV.
“Diego was doing much better after five bottles of water. He got into the car under his own power,” the fire department stated on it social media site.
