Queen Creek players headed to national soccer tournament

An Arizona soccer team with seven Queen Creek girls is heading to a major national tournament in July.

The U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships take place July 18 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

“The Arizona Soccer Club [for girls 13 and under] was the first team in club history to win the regional championship and will be competing for the national championship in Orlando,” said Miguel Aguilar, the father of one of the Queen Creek girls headed to nationals. “Many of these girls have been on the team for five years or more. Even with new additions throughout the year, the team was able to continue its successful run, which started with a first-place finish in the Arizona Soccer Association’s top competitive league, Arizona Premier League.”

The Arizona Soccer Club went on to win the Arizona State Cup Championship in April. That win earned the team a spot at the 2022 U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships in Boise, Idaho.

Arizona Soccer Club went 6-0, beating teams from Washington, Utah, Hawaii, Colorado, Alaska and Nevada last week.

According to the USYS website, the Arizona Soccer Club won its first regional championship by defeating the Las Vegas Surf, 2-1, in the final. The club scored 16 goals throughout the tournament.
