Phoenix officer injures knife-wielding man in shooting

Independent Newsmedia
Phoenix police are investigating after officers shot at a knife-wielding man.
No officers were injured, police said.
The incident happened before 6 p.m. Friday near 24th Street and Buckeye Road.
Police said they responded to a call of a man with a knife, possibly cutting himself and bleeding.
However, officers arrived and did not initially locate the man. They remained in the area and later spotted him.
Officers approached the man and saw he was still armed and bleeding. Police told him to drop his weapon, but he refused and yelled at officers to shoot him as he walked into traffic lanes.
Police said the man continued to ignore officers and moved toward them still armed with the knife. One officer deployed a Taser and a second officer fired at the man, stopping him.
The 34-year-old man was transported to a hospital in serious condition and is expected to survive his injuries.
The involved officers are 52 and 23 with 19 and two years of experience, respectively.
