A man is in custody in connection to a collision in Phoenix.
The incident happened around 8 a.m. Monday near 43rd and Peoria avenues.
Police said an Infiniti SUV was traveling southbound on 43rd in the two-way left-hand turn lanes south of Peoria Avenue when it collided with a Chevrolet Impala, operated by a 38-year-old woman and occupied by her four children, ages 9-15. Police said the Impala was pushed into a Dodge Durango driven by a 37-year-old woman.
After the Impala collided with the Durango, the Impala rotated into the northbound lanes of travel and was struck by a northbound GMC truck, driven by a 57-year-old man. Police said the Durango and Impala were trying to turn into a school when the collision occurred.
A 12-year-old girl in the Impala was taken to a hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
Police said Clint Rasho, 40, of Peoria, drove away from the scene but was located nearby. Police noticed signs of impairment, according to court records.
Police developed probable cause to arrest Mr. Rasho on charges of aggravated assault, endangerment and failure to remain at the scene. He was jailed without bond due to being on felony release.
