Patchen: Government should stay out of our lives, choices

Posted

OK, I think I’m tracking Arizona Sen. Nancy Barto’s train of thought. Fourteen weeks is too short. Sixteen weeks is too long.

Fifteen weeks sounds just about right. Exceptions for the health of the mother? Fine, whatever. Exceptions for incest? Nah. Rape? Skip it.

Fair enough. If that’s where she draws the line for herself, all the power to her.

But what gives Barto the right to impose her limits on others rather than letting women decide what’s best for themselves? This coming from the party of small government?

Can’t wait to find out what the GOP has planned next.

Here’s an idea that’s consistent with Arizona’s tradition: stay out of our lives and leave these personal choices to the people.

My choice? Arizona Sen. Christine Marsh, because she has enough respect for the women of Scottsdale to decide what’s best for themselves.
