Newman: I support end-of-life choices legislation

Posted

Once you pass the age of 80 (as I did last year), dying becomes very real.

I have witnessed the deaths of far too many friends and relatives.

Some lived in states that permit Medical Aid in Dying; others did not.

Those who had the option of MAID were comforted by the knowledge that the choice was theirs.

I am writing because I, too, would like that choice when my time comes. Will I take it? I can’t say.

That decision will depend on my physical condition, pain levels and prognosis. This much I do know — every one of us is going to die! Isn’t it high time for Arizona to join Colorado, California, New Mexico, and many other enlightened states, by permitting its residents some control over their own personal circumstances?

If you agree, please take this one, small step … In the upcoming election, ask your candidates whether or not they will support MAID legislation, then vote accordingly.

Thank you for your consideration.
