New artistic swimming team in the Valley wants members

Arizona Synergy Artistic Swimming Team is welcoming swimmers ages 6-15 for recreational and competitive artistic synchronized swimming opportunities.

The start-up team practices in the pool at the Arizona State University West Campus, 4701 W. Thunderbird Road, in Glendale, according to a press release, inviting new members to participate in Artistic Swimming — Synchronized Swimming — competitive sport.

The individual and a team sport is a hybrid of swimming, dance, and gymnastics as swimmers are often upside down with their legs above the surface, performing spins, splits, and other movements, which all require traditional swimming skills.

In addition to basic swimming techniques, swimmers gain the power of a weightlifter, agility of a track athlete, flexibility of a gymnast, grace of a ballerina, breath control, discipline, and years of dedication, the release said.

Through training, artistic swimmers develop physical and creative talent. New members are sought during recruitment efforts throughout August, September, and October. Youth with interest in joining the team are encouraged to attend a trial session.

Arizona Synergy Artistic Swimming Team is one of five competitive teams and two university teams in Arizona, noted the release.
