Monday again produced a low number of positive COVID-19 tests in Maricopa County, with case counts rising 776 from the previous day, according to data released by the county’s Department of Public Health.
Mondays are traditionally the lightest day for coronavirus case reports. The numbers come after a string of days last week when the county reported more than 2,000 cases per day. And since Friday’s release, the county has reported 3,413 cases for Saturday through Monday. Total county cases now stand at 190,067.
Recorded deaths also were lower over the weekend, with 20 total reported between Saturday and Monday. The county reported two additional deaths on Monday, with the total deaths now standing at 3,894, according to county data.
Continued rising cases in Maricopa County have pushed up the seven-day average of cases fairly sharply during the past few weeks. Nov. 2 was the last day where the seven-day average was below 1,000 cases a day. Since then the county has risen to an average of 1,809 as of Nov. 18.
While the seven-day average for deaths had remained stable for several weeks, it too is now starting to rise, reaching 10 deaths per day as of Nov. 6, up from roughly seven for the previous week. Reports of deaths related to the coronavirus generally lag behind reports of new cases two to three weeks.
The region has not yet hit the highs in terms cases per day it did during the height of the summer surge. During the county’s summer spike, cases reached 3,809 cases in a day on June 29. The highest seven-day average for cases reached during the summer was July 2 at 3,199.
