Maricopa Community Colleges to allow fans at outdoor sports events

Posted

Sports fans will soon be able to catch an outdoor game at Maricopa Community Colleges.

The Maricopa County Community College District announced the news Friday for all district athletic events.

According to the news release, spectators will be allowed to attend outdoor games or matches starting Monday. The district's policy dictates that all fans will be required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while in attendance.

However, access for each college will vary based on the sport as well as the size and layout of the facilities where games are played in, the district said.

"The safety of our community, faculty, staff, and students remains our highest priority," the statement said.

The community college district includes 10 colleges  with a combined total of more than 200,000 students.

The community colleges are following in the footsteps of other Arizona sports teams that have allowed limited fan attendance at games this season, including the Arizona Coyotes and  Phoenix Suns.
