Police identify suspect, victim in deadly shooting in Glendale

Posted

Police have identified a suspect and victim of a shooting that occurred inside a business in Glendale.

Julius Grant, 40, is suspected of shooting Scott Isaacson, 50, on Monday morning at Integrity Staffing Solutions near 95th Avenue and Camelback Road.

Glendale police said Mr. Grant was a former employee at Integrity and was upset over a pay issue.

Mr. Grant went to the location and, after waiting for a period of time, entered an office where Mr. Isaacson was meeting with two other employees. Without provocation, Mr. Grant shot Mr. Isaacson multiple times, police said. Court documents indicate Mr. Grant also pointed the firearm at another person before fleeing in his vehicle.

Police learned Mr. Grant had recently resigned from his position at an Amazon warehouse in Phoenix, where he reported an issue about sexual harrasment. He had claimed employees were trying to make him homosexual, records state. Mr. Grant apparently had not made a formal complaint about the harassment prior to resigning.

Police said they were able to identify him quickly and began searching for  him.

Mr. Isaacson was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries.

Glendale police ensured the safety of those present and that there was no longer an active threat at the business.

Around 2 p.m., authorities tracked Mr. Grant to the area of 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road, where Mr. Grant displayed a handgun out of the open driver’s window of his vehicle. At least one Glendale detective fired, striking Mr. Grant in the hand, records state. No detectives from agencies other than Glendale Police fired during the incident.

Mr. Grant told authorities he didn't believe he had been paid adequately for his work, records state. He said when he approached Mr. Isaacson about the issue, Mr. Isaascson's body language reportedly indicated nothing was going to be done.

According to court documents, Mr. Grant diclosed he has PTSD and is homeless.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents. Phoenix police are handling the OIS component.

Mr. Grant faces murder and aggravated assault charges and was jailed in lieu of a $1 million bond. Additional charges may be added for the OIS.
