Lewis, 91, died August 5, 2020 at Prairie Sunset Home, Pretty Prairie, KS.
He was born September 16, 1928 at Galva, KS, the son of Oscar and Mildred Larson. Lewis was a graduate of McPherson High School and Kansas State University with a major in Industrial Chemistry and a minor in Education.
On June 4, 1950, he married Norma Jean Evans at Manhattan, KS. Lewis taught high school math and science before moving to Pretty Prairie in 1957 to begin farming. He also had an interest in woodworking that evolved into building farm buildings and houses. Lewis had a love for flying that led to obtaining his private pilot’s license and he enjoyed flying small planes for many years as a hobby.
As Lewis retired from farming, he traveled extensively and visited all 50 states and many countries, played golf, and took up hiking to include a trek through the Grand Canyon. Lewis and Norma enjoyed winters for 25 years in their home in Sun City, AZ, where Lewis was involved in the hiking club, woodworking, and socializing over cards and playing golf with their friends.
Lewis was active in the Lions Club, served on the Pretty Prairie USD school board for 12 years, and served as Reno County Commissioner for 4 years.
Survivors include Norma, his wife of 70 years; sisters Marjorie Holloway and Ruth Taylor of Wichita, KS; sons Kirk (Kathy) and Kyle Larson of Pretty Prairie, KS; daughters Kris (Doug) Berry of Gig Harbor, WA, and Kara (Chris) Kastilahn of Sun City, AZ; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Oscar Jr., Robert, and Pete Larson; sister Doris Engel; and infant daughter Kathy.
