Laurence Ellsworth Bouldry III

1942-2020

Posted

It is with great sadness that the family of Laurence “Larry” Ellsworth Bouldry III announce his passing on June 22, 2020, at his home in Sun City, AZ, at the age of 77. Larry was born in Brockton, MA, to the late Laurence Ellsworth II and Lavern Bouldry. He grew up in Bridgewater, MA, until his early teens when his family moved to Santa Barbara, CA.
After graduation from Santa Barbara High School in 1960, Larry served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965. Upon his honorable discharge, Larry attended San Jose State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology.
Larry worked for the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff from 1967-1968, and later spent six years with the Santa Barbara Probation Department, attaining the position of Supervising Probation Officer at the Villa Esperanza Counseling and Education Center. During this time, Larry met and married Ginsey Bullock, and they had two sons, Laurence IV and William.
Following his time with the Probation Department, Larry took a break to spend quality time with his dad building a fishing boat in Morro Bay, CA, that they christened the “Gin-Sea,” affectionately named after his wife.
Larry was hired by the Southland Corporation in 1983 and worked as a Division Facilities Manager. During this time, life threw him a curve ball when he was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1997. He picked himself up, dusted himself off and tackled this challenge with his strong, “You’re not going to defeat me” determination. He was able to return to work within a year with a clean bill of health, becoming a 22-year cancer survivor! Larry went on to retire from Southland Corporation in 2003. However, not quite ready for full-time retirement, he went to work for the Starbucks Corporation as an Area Facilities Manager until 2005.
Larry moved to Sun City, AZ, in 2010 to fulfill his dream of playing golf three days a week and enjoying morning coffee with his buddies.
Larry’s sons fondly remember their dad’s ongoing support of their youth sports activities. He was their biggest and loudest fan, never missing a game. Larry dearly loved his Massachusetts family and regretted not being able to spend more time with them. They have fond memories of Larry and many heartwarming stories to share with his sons.
Some people may remember Larry’s “You did it, you deal with it!” attitude, but his family and close friends will always remember his “You did it, how can I help?” He was the only person who could tell you to go to hell and have you looking forward to the trip.
Larry is survived by his sons, Laurence Ellsworth Bouldry IV and William Levi Bouldry; former spouse, Ginsey Bouldry; two sisters, Patricia Weatherford and Paula (Roger) Brand; brother, Michael (Sheryl) Bouldry; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many good friends.
We draw comfort in knowing that Larry is enjoying his perfect golf game in a better place.
Arrangements are being made for a future private gathering with family and friends.
