Horizon offers COVID-19 rapid testing at Apache Junction clinic

Horizon Health and Wellness is offering COVID-19 rapid testing in Apache Junction to anyone who believes they need one.

The test is not covered by insurance and there is an $80 out-of-pocket cost. Pre-registration is required at rapidtest.hhwaz.org, according to a release.

The tests are done 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at Horizon Health and Wellness, 625 N. Plaza Drive in Apache Junction.

“Rapid COVID-19 testing will give people a peace of mind while providing quick test results within one hour. The ability for this testing is a critical component to protecting public health,” the release states. “The registration, test and results are quick and easy.”

Registration at hhwaz.org is required for testing. Select a date and time and fill out the registration form.

“Drive up to COVID rapid testing designated parking area and remain in vehicle. A Horizon health care team member will come outside and take a nasal swab specimen from you while you remain in your vehicle. Test results will be emailed back to you within one hour. There is an $80 out-of-pocket cost. Your insurance will not be billed,” the release states.

The rapid test provided is an antigen test and not a PCR test.

“It is important to note that the rapid antigen test can have a higher rate of false positives and negatives than a traditional PCR test. Your primary care provider can help you interpret the results of your test. If you are using the rapid test results for travel, please verify that a rapid antigen test is acceptable,” according to the release.

Horizon still offers the diagnostic PCR test — a nasal swab test — which detects if you’re actively infected with the COVID-19 virus; and antibody testing — a blood draw — which detects if you were exposed to the virus in past. These tests do require an appointment with one of the primary care providers. Test results are usually available within one to two days. These two tests are available by appointment only at the Horizon Clinics in Apache Junction, Casa Grande, Florence, Oracle, Queen Creek and Yuma. Details are at hhwaz.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/COVID-19-Rapid-Testing-Flyer-4.pdf.
