Hattabaugh: ‘Rumble strips’ needed next to Mesa bike lanes

Posted

I read your article in the Mesa Independent newspaper about bicycle/walking paths and found it very interesting (“$20M earmarked for bicycle, walking paths: Residents prefer offstreet lanes, connections to parks and shopping,” on the cover of the October 2021 issue).

However, I would like to suggest that the city of Mesa put in “rumble strips” or a similar item carved into the roads next to bike lanes to bring awareness to drivers who may be distracted or drifted into a bike lane.

I believe this cost-effective measure could save countless lives and doesn’t interfere with current vehicle or cyclists right of ways.
