SPECIAL ELECTION
Goodyear voters approve city charter updates
Posted
Goodyear voters have approved all 10 measures updating the city’s charter.
Official results from the city’s March 9 special election show all 10 measures were approved by healthy margins. The election was conducted by mail-in ballot, with 57,326 ballots sent out and 9,720 ballots returned, according to a release.
In addition to multiple administrative and grammatical changes, amendments included establishing a committee to review and recommend compensation for the City Council, adopting an appointment process in the event of a vacancy on the council and removing an automatic transition from council members being elected at-large to electoral districts when the city reaches a population of 150,000.
City charters provided basic governing principles for the city. Amendments on the ballot were recommended by the city’s Citizen Charter Review Ad-Hoc Committee and referred to voters by the City Council.
