A Glendale woman is facing child abuse charges after her 2-year-old son sustained severe injuries.

According to court documents, the boy is in extremely critical condition and may not survive.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, police and fire personnel responded to an apartment unit near 75th and Glendale avenues for reports of an unresponsive child.

Officials learned the 2-year-old boy had been put in the shower after he had thrown up. However, police state the boy had been left in the shower unattended for about 15 minutes. When his mother returned, the boy was slumped over and unresponsive.

According to records, the boy’s mother, identified as Raejene Danae Dixon, 25, had allegedly spanked her son multiple times after he threw up.

Officials noted other signs of injury around the child’s body, to include his face. Police were told Ms. Dixon was the only one who physically disciplined the child, as her boyfriend was not the biological father.

Ms. Dixon acknowledged that she likely used too much force when disciplining her son.

Records state the boy’s injuries are so severe to the point he could not breathe or survive on his own and was intubated.

Ms. Dixon was jailed in lieu of $75,000 bond.
