Glendale police still need help to identify the driver of a fatal hit-and-run that occurred more than a year ago.
On Sept. 28, 2020, just before 7 p.m., Glendale police and fire departments responded to a report of a collision on North 51st Avenue just south of W. Missouri Avenue. The victim, 37-year-old Garry L. Nelson Jr., of Phoenix, was walking south in the two-way left turn lane when he was struck from behind by a southbound red Cadillac sedan. Nelson was thrown into northbound traffic from the impact and died on scene.
The red Cadillac left the area without stopping and did not return. The vehicle was recovered the next day a few miles away after it had been abandoned.
Glendale Police Department Vehicular Crimes Detectives are investigating the collision and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of the fatal hit-and-run vehicle. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for potential reward up to $1,000, or the Glendale Police Department at 623-930-3000.
