In support of the Glendale Police Department’s commitment to traffic safety and vehicular collision reduction, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has partnered with Glendale PD and awarded four grants which will aid in ongoing efforts to make Valley roadways safer.

The specific grants are as follows:

• Occupant Protection Enforcement grant in the amount of $30,000 with a grant period through Sept. 30. This grant will be used to fund occupant protection education to include child safety seat installation. Funding will allow for supplemental staffing to educate occupants of motor vehicle restraints and enforce applicable traffic laws. Officers will participate in the “National Child Passenger Safety Week.”
• A DUI/Impairment Driving Enforcement grant in the amount of $64,242 with a grant period through Sept. 30. This grant will educate drivers about the dangers of impaired driving as well as funding the participation in DUI task forces throughout the year.
• An Accident Investigation Training grant in the amount of $69,276 with a grant period through Sept. 30. This grant will fund the ongoing training, software and equipment required for Glendale’s Vehicular Crime Squad to remain qualified to conduct accident reconstructions and provide expert testimony in court.
• A Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant in the amount of $50,000 with a grant period through Sept. 30. This grant will be usesd for funding personnel resources to change driving behaviors and to enforce aggressive driving, excessive speed and racing.
• A Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety grant in the amount of $54,500 with a grant period through Sept. 30. This grant will be used for personnel services to educate the public and conduct enforcement of traffic laws. The grant will also be used to develop flyers, brochures, printed educational items to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety enforcement throughout the city of Glendale.
