I want to thank Kristi Svendsen for taking time to raise the lack of Americans with Disabilities Act considerations in the recent building remodel.
However, I want to set the record straight. Until recently the Recreation Centers of Sun City management and board took the position that they did not need to comply with the ADA. My dues-paying mother was effectively denied use of the facilities because RCSC refused to permit reasonable accommodations under ADA.
Numerous Sun City residents have mobility restrictions. They still want to be active. It’s about time for the RCSC to step up to the plate and do more for the numerous handicapped members. RCSC is quick to accept credit for the lift at Sundial, but money for the lift was raised by the Handicapable Club — RCSC refused to provide the lift.
Furthermore, RCSC forced the Handicapable Club to give up the noodles they used as part of therapy at the Sundial age-restricted pool because non-dues paying grandchildren were abusing noodles at other pool facilities.
Handicap parking is not enough!
