Florence goes big for Fourth of July
Posted
It’s a simple little activity that puts smiles on little faces and reminds you to enjoy the little things in life! ”
Alison Feliz, Florence Community Services Director
Independent Newsmedia
While some cities have had to cancel their July Fourth fireworks display, Florence is ready to pop.
Activities for the town’s “4th of July Freedom Fest” run from the early afternoon and well until the evening. There will be free swimming at the town’s acquatic center, a beer garden, a concert and fireworks will end the day starting at 8:30 p.m. Florence’s Community Services Director Alison Feliz provided the lowdown on an uplifting day.
What are the activities set to take place and where and at what time? The gates open for the 4th of July Freedom Fest at 5 p.m. at the Territory Square Multi-Purpose Fields. The Aquatic Center will also be open for free open swim from 1-5 p.m.
Are there any new events? New this year will be a beer garden. The event premises will be fenced in and serve as the beer garden. Items not allowed at event include:
Animals - With the exception of service animals for guests with disabilities.
Bottles, Cans, Thermoses & Other Beverage Containers
Fireworks
Weapons - Knives, box-cutters, firearms, etc.
Smoking will only be allowed in designated area
What is the most popular activity and why? The most popular activity is the inflatables and of course the fireworks. The inflatables are a must to help keep kids cool during the event. We are said to have the best fireworks show in Pinal County.
In the years you’ve lived in Florence, how much has this event grown? This event has always been one of our most popular events. I would say attendance had always been around the 2,000s and in recent years it is closer to attracting 3,000 to 3,500 people.
What was your favorite activity and why? My favorite activity is the splash zone. This was a new addition that began last year. The Fire Department brings out their Brush Truck 542 and sprays water up in the air for the crowd to run and cool off in. It’s a simple little activity that puts smiles on little faces and reminds you to enjoy the little things in life!
Who will be performing at the Freedom Fest? We are excited to have our local High Ground takes the stage from 5-5:45 p.m., then Awake at Midnight from 6-6:45 p.m. and closing out the concert is Power Drive from 7-8:30 p.m. Then the fireworks begin.
Does your event attract people from surrounding communities and what kind of feedback do you get from them? Yes, we get a lot of people from the San Tan Valley area and people typically love our event! We hear that it is the best fireworks show in Pinal County!
