Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Gough, 90, of Surprise, Arizona passed away on September 15, 2021 in Surprise due to complications from COVID-19. She was born in Frackville, Pennsylvania on July 20, 1931 as one of seven children to parents Jacob and Elizabeth Nahass. Jacob and Elizabeth were Syrian immigrants who immigrated to the United States by way of France. Betty married Russell Gough in January of 1955 on the pier in Longport, New Jersey. Russell paid a justice of the peace $19 for their wedding service. Betty and Russell moved many places over the years through Russell’s military service in the Air Force, but settled in Phoenix in 1973. Russell and Betty had three children - Liz Leigh,70 (married to George Leigh) of Surprise; Russell Gough, 65 (married to Doris Gough) of Glendale; and Patricia Jones, 59 (married to Kenneth Jones) of Suwanee, Georgia. Betty was a generous, loving person who never met a stranger. She worked as a salesperson, a hospitality worker, an activities director for many assisted living facilities, and most recently she worked as a healthcare worker for the Glencroft Center for Modern Aging in Glendale. In addition to always working and helping others, Betty loved her grandchildren (Micheal, David, Megan, Ethan, Rachael, and Teri) as well as her great-grand-children (Anthony, Grant, MaKenzie, Hunter, Garrett, Madison, Grace, Isabelle, and Eleanor), and her great-great-grandchildren (Braelynn, Grayson, Colton). Betty is survived by Russell Gough (spouse) and Josephine Swirsky (sister). Betty loved playing games with her many grandchildren, perusing Facebook, taking long walks, shopping, and watching her favorite daytime talk shows. Everyone who knew her felt loved by her and she made everyone feel at home. Betty is in the care of Surprise Funeral Care at 16063 W. Bell Rd, Surprise, AZ. The family is delaying services at this time due to the ongoing pandemic.
