The city of Surprise Parks and Recreation Department is offering Spring Break Camp March 15-19 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sierra Montana Recreation Center, located at 14861 N. Spring Lane.
Children aged kindergarten-6th grades can have fun participating in on-site activities such as arts and crafts, games, sports, and other activities, all in a safe and supervised environment. To register, download a registration packet from surpriseaz.gov/recreation. Once the packet is complete, contact the Parks and Recreation office at 623.222.2000 to schedule a time to come in and register your child.
Pavement Preservation
Pavement preservation work will be taking place in the Sierra Montana development on March 22-24. Residents living in the area of treatment will receive a “48 hour” notice before work begins via a door hanger. To see a map of the specific area of work, click here
Greenway Road Project Update
Greenway Road from Northwest Ranch Parkway to Legacy Park Boulevard will be closed until March 14.
Motorists heading eastbound along Greenway Road from Loop 303 can expect a single lane until they reach the closure at Northwest Ranch Parkway, allowing access to be maintained to the business complex east of the Loop 303.
Left turn movements will be maintained for drivers traveling east on Greenway Road to Northwest Ranch Parkway.
Motorists driving south on Northwest Ranch Parkway will be able to make a right turn to go west on Greenway Road.
Westbound traffic along Greenway Road will be reduced to a single lane beginning at Reems Road. Local traffic will be able to continue to the hard closure at Legacy Park Boulevard.
Drivers traveling west on Greenway Road will be able to make the left turn to go south on Legacy Park Boulevard.
Motorists traveling north on Legacy Park Boulevard will be able to turn right to go east on Greenway Road.
The Greenway Road project will finish the south half of Greenway Road from approximately Cotton Lane to Sarival Avenue by adding two travel lanes and eliminating areas of the roadway that have multiple lanes merging into one. The project is scheduled to be completed in November 2021, weather permitting.
2021 National Community Survey
Share your thoughts on what you love about living in Surprise, what services you value the most, and what the City can do better in the 2021 National Community Survey (NCS)! In February, a paper survey was mailed to 2,700 randomly selected Surprise households for the first phase of data collection. If you did not receive a paper survey, an online version will be available in mid-March for all residents. Keep an eye on our website at www.surpriseaz.gov for details on when the survey will be available.
Lifeguard Training Classes/Summer Camp Positions
Looking for a great summer job? The City of Surprise Parks & Recreation Department is now enrolling for Lifeguard Training Classes and Summer Camp positions.
Lifeguard training classes are open to those 16 years old and up. To register, you can go online to Surprise Rec. Classes are scheduled for March 5, 12, 15, and 17. All classes are held at the Surprise Aquatic Center, 15831 N. Bullard Avenue, and consist of 8-hours of pre-class online coursework that must be completed prior to the first day of an in-person class and an active pretest that includes swimming, diving, retrieving, and treating of water.

Summer Camp position applications are now being accepted. If you enjoy working with children, you are invited to apply for Recreation I and Recreation III openings. Summer Break Camp is a 10-week program for children in 1st through 8th grades. Activities include weekly field trips, arts and crafts, games, and sports. Budget Kick-off
The Fiscal Year 2022 budget process has begun! The City of Surprise Finance Department is giving a series of presentations to City Council during City Council Work Sessions and Regular Meetings. These presentations cover operating revenues and expenses and department operating budget development. If you missed any of the previous presentations, you can view them on our website at surpriseaz.gov/budget.
The Recommended Budget is expected to be released in April, followed by Council and public review, with the Final Budget adoption scheduled for June 2021.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event
Surprise residents can make an appointment to have hazardous waste picked up directly from their homes beginning March 16-26. Appointments can be made by requesting an appointment through the My Surprise app or by calling Customer Service at 623.222.1920. Pick-ups will occur March 29- April 9.
Acceptable items:
Antifreeze, motor oil, gasoline, diesel, and fuel additives (5 gallon limit per household)
Brake-transmission-power steering fluid, degreasers (5 gallon limit per household)
Pool chemicals, fire extinguishers, and gas cylinders
Calling all volunteers! We’re hosting Day of Service events on March 20 and March 31. On Saturday, March 20, volunteers will participate in various projects throughout the city including landscaping, painting, trimming of shrubs, debris removal, and more. On Wednesday, March 31, volunteers will meet at St. Mary’s Food Bank to help in the process of providing food to families in need. Registration is required for both events, and COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
The City of Surprise is recruiting new members for the Surprise Youth Council (SYC)! Students who are currently enrolled in grades 7-11 may apply if they are attending a middle school or high school within the Surprise city limits, attending a Dysart Unified School District high school, or reside within the Surprise city limits. To apply, submit a video, no longer than 90 seconds, that includes:

A drop-off recycling location is available at the Surprise Public Works Yard, located at 17274 N. Litchfield Road, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8-11 a.m. & 1-3 p.m. A city staff member will be available to help residents sort the recyclable material and ensure that the recyclables are not contaminated.

Spring Training has officially begun! An updated schedule of games is available at SurpriseStadium.com. Tickets can be purchased online through SurpriseStadium.com, by phone at 623.222.2222, and in-person at the Surprise Stadium box office, located at 15960 N. Bullard Avenue. Please note that box office transactions will be cashless. Accepted forms of payment at the box office include Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
