Donation drive raises 800+ turkeys at Glendale food bank

Frozen Turkey Saturday in Glendale made sure that hundreds of local families will enjoy Thanksgiving dinner.

The annual drive at Hope For Hunger Food Bank, located at 5605 N. 55th Ave., took place this past Saturday and yielded 818 donated turkeys.

Ryan Brown, public relations and marketing manager for Phoenix Rescue Mission, noted that the total was down from the agency’s usual numbers on Frozen Turkey Saturday. He said reasons given from donors is that rising turkey prices impacted the effort, as did some stores limiting purchases to one turkey.

Hope for Hunger provides emergency food along with case management and job assistance for roughly 200 families each day in Glendale and parts of Phoenix and Peoria. One in six Arizona kids face hunger.

Hope For Hunger is always accepting food donations.
