DAVID PAUL "SONNY" SONIA

David Paul “Sonny” Sonia passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 19, 2022. He was born June 14, 1933, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Lena and Frank Sonia. Sonny was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After discharge he began his career as an electrician and was a member of the IBEW for 65 years. He was a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Sun City Lodge No. 72, a lifetime member of El Zaribah Shriners and a member of their motorcycle unit. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He was the proud owner of a Gold Wing and a Harley. He took many trips with the Sun Cities Power Riders and the Gold Wing Road Riders. He was also a member of the American Legion, Sun City Sportsman Club and the metal shop. He enjoyed shooting trap at Ben Avery, game hunting, was a collector of guns and a member of the NRA. He enjoyed traveling and the many cruises he took. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Paula Walker. He is survived by daughter Lauralee “Dolly” Sonia of Virginia Beach, VA, two sisters, Olivia Erickson and Julianne Morley, both of Minnesota, and longtime friend Carolyn Ducar of Sun City West. A memorial service will be held at the Best Funeral Services West Valley Chapel, 9380 W Peoria Avenue, on Monday, June 27th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sonny’s memory should be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children and sent to 552 N 40th Street, Phoenix AZ 85008.
