Sun City Agua Fria National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter members Debbie Schneider, a United States veteran, and Honorary Chapter Regent Shirley Staggs presented 50th Commemorative Vietnam Era Veterans lapel pins, buttons, bumper stickers and a brochure explaining the meaning of the symbols on the pin to veterans who served America from Nov. 1, 1955 through May 15, 1975, in any military branch anywhere in the world.

This project is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. Organizations are welcomed to become partners with the DOD. This project will continue until Memorial Day 2025 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the ending of the Vietnam War.

Veterans honored and recognized recently were Jim Smith, who served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1968, Bob Cable, who served in the U.S. Navy between 1974 and 1978, Douglas Leach, who served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1969, and Dave Bruce, who served in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corp from 1966 to 1970.

These four veterans were welcomed by others at Sun City’s Sunland Memorial Park & Mortuary, 15826 N. Del Webb Blvd., where they received free coffee and donuts. All veterans are invited to attend at 9 a.m. on the second Tuesday of every month.

Agua Fria Chapter Registrar Leslie Eaton was present to explain how she is honoring veterans by finding those who would like to tell their stories and record it. The recorded, unedited video is then sent to the Library of Congress.
