DAR Community Service Award presented to Robin Barker

The Apache Trail Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution on Dec. 5 presented Apache Junction Councilmember Robin Barker with a DAR Community Service Award.

DAR Community Service Awards are presented to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the community in an outstanding manner through voluntary heroic, civic, benevolent service, or by organizing or participating in community activities within the past five years, according to a release.

A longtime volunteer and member in Apache Junction, Mrs. Barker was presented with the award for her dedication and commitment to her community.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a women’s service organization whose members can trace their lineage to an individual who contributed to securing American independence during the Revolutionary War. Today’s DAR is dynamic and diverse, with more than 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters in the U.S. and abroad. DAR members annually provide millions of hours of volunteer service to their local communities across the country and world. DAR chapters participate in projects to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. More than one million members have joined the organization since its founding in 1890, the release states.
