Bordow: Stay updated with AJUSD with new mobile app

Posted

Life these days is lived on the cell phone.

No matter where you go, no matter what you’re doing, your cell phone is with you or somewhere nearby. You use it for calls and text messages. You use it to check your email, transfer money on a cash app, or play the card game you’ve downloaded.

You can’t imagine what life was like without it.

Now, you can use your cell phone to stay updated with everything going on in the Apache Junction Unified School District with our mobile app, which is part of the contract AJUSD has with Blackboard for its website and messaging system.

Before we get into what’s on the app, here’s how to get it: Go into the app store on your phone and search for Bb District by Blackboard. Download the app. Then, in the search bar, type in Apache Junction. Our app will come up. After a couple of easy-to-follow instructions you’ll be ready to go.

What’s on the app? Well, hopefully everything you’ll need to keep abreast of what’s happening in AJUSD.

Our Facebook and Twitter feeds link directly to the app, and you’ll be able to watch governing board meetings on our YouTube button. The app will include a district calendar for the 2021-22 school year as well as an events calendar.

Other options include ParentVue, where parents and students can access their accounts, updated lunch menus, a staff directory and a messaging system. If, for example, Cactus Canyon Junior High School discovers a nest of hornets and students need to leave early parents will get that message sent to them immediately in the “Notifications” button on the app.

(FYI: Hornets are not buzzing around Cactus Canyon. We’re just saying.)

Our hope is that the app will become a convenient way for you to keep up with our schools. Here’s another for instance: You’re at lunch with a friend and you can’t recall if it’s an early release day for your child’s school. Grab your phone, click on the “calendar” button and the information will be at your fingertips.

Do you have to download the app? No, you don’t. Any information on the app also can be found at AJUSD’s website, ajusd.org. The app is just another convenient option for parents, students and community members to experience everything going on in the Apache Junction Unified School District.

Editor’s note: Any questions about the app should be directed to Scott Bordow, AJUSD’s director of communications and community engagement. He can be reached at scott.bordow@goaj.org.
