Argument leads to fatal crash in Glendale

A woman faces charges in a crash that killed her passenger in Glendale.

Before 9 p.m. Sunday, Glendale police responded to reports of a female driver speeding southbound on 51st Avenue near Peoria Avenue.

Police said the driver passed multiple vehicles and lost control, crashing into a residential block wall near Onyx Avenue.

Fire personnel responded and provided treatment to both occupants.

However, passenger Cristian Ramos, 25, of Phoenix, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Evangelina Elizabeth Lara, 24, of Phoenix, was taken to the hospital and later released.

Detectives determined that speed and impairment were factors in the collision. Ms. Lara indicated she and Mr. Ramos had been verbally arguing when the collision occurred.

After Ms. Lara was released from the hospital, she was transported to jail on felony charges for reckless manslaughter.
