April Pool’s Day planned in Apache Junction April 17

The annual April Pool’s Day water safety event is Saturday, April 17, at the Superstition Shadows Aquatic Center, 1091 W. Southern Ave. in Apache Junction.

It will be hosted by the Superstition Fire and Medical District, Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Department and the Apache Junction Police Department.

“Our water safety instructors, lifeguards and a variety of vendors will be on hand to teach your family about the importance of being safe in, on and around the water. Drowning is silent and can happen in a matter of seconds. Learn how to prevent water related incidents from happening whether at an aquatic facility, at the lake or in your own backyard,” according to a release.

“Whether you own a pool or visit friends/family with backyard pools, it is good to know what you have around the house that can be useful in an emergency as well as what can cause an emergency," it states.

Anyone can do CPR. Learn the basics of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with Superstition Fire and Medical District. The police department will be sharing ways to teach kids how to call 911 and why it is important to know your address.

“Refresh yourself in the pool after this incredible time of learning. There will be free grab-n-go snack packs upon exiting and raffles — thank you in part to Wal-Mart — for those who attend,” the release states.

The event is free; however, due to restrictions, space is limited and requires preregistration. Register each family member attending online or in person at the Apache Junction Multi-Generational Center, 1035 N. Idaho Road, for a one-hour timeframe; timeframes begin at 9 a.m.

“COVID-19 protocols will be in place at the aquatics center during the event. Masks will be mandatory while on the pool deck, in the restrooms and visiting the vendors; however, not recommended while swimming in the pool. Please practice social distancing around others not in your family as well as the amazing vendors and educators. Do not miss this fun and informative event,” the release states.

All assistive flotation devices must be Coast Guard approved. Children 7 and younger must be within arm’s reach of a parent at all time.
