In compliance with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey's Executive Order 2020-18 and the April 3 “Additional Guidance on Essential Services” from the Governor’s Office, and in an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the following amenities remain closed at Queen Creek Town parks:
Playgrounds
Skate Parks
Splash Pads
Fitness Pods
Basketball and volleyball courts
Restrooms
The Town of Queen Creek is keeping all community parks open, per direction from Gov. Ducey, according to a release.
"It is your personal responsibility to comply with state and federal guidelines for physical distancing --- no groups of 10+ and staying 6 feet apart," the release states.
Additionally, visitors who choose to use the closed amenities do so at their own risk, it states.
The parks amenities are not being sanitized due to a lack of supplies. The demand for cleaning and sanitation supplies for hospitals, first responders and others across the nation has decreased the availability of supplies.
“While certain of the town’s park amenities remain closed in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order 2020-18 and the April 3, 2020 ‘Additional Guidance on Essential Services,’ temporary fences are being removed and nets are being restored,” Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney said in the release. “During this difficult time, the council and I are challenged with making difficult decisions in an effort to protect the safety of the community. State and federal guidelines have been implemented to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Signage has been placed throughout our public spaces and on our website reminding the public to practice physical distancing and comply with those guidelines.”
The town is encouraging residents to stay active and connected by providing daily programming on the Queen Creek Parks and Recreation Facebook page, as well as showcasing residents being “QC Neighborly” on several town social media sites.
