ADHS: Peoria area ZIP codes have 40,667 COVID-19 cases, doubled since June

Posted

Arizona Department of Health Services reported 4,012 new coronavirus cases and 33 new deaths Thursday, for a total of 1,276,955 cases and 22,383 deaths.

In the Peoria area, cases are at 40,667 compared with 39,250 this time two weeks ago, a difference of 1,417, according to Arizona Department of Health Services.

This is an increase of about 52% since the beginning of June, and 62% since the beginning of April.

Over 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient's residence. If the patient's address was unknown the case was mapped to the address of the provider followed by the address of the reporting facility

The coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms such as fever and cough for most people. The vast majority of people who are diagnosed with COVID-19 recover.

But for some — especially older adults and people with existing health problems — it can cause more severe illness including pneumonia, and death.
