ADHS: 312 weekly cases in Goodyear, slight drop from last week


The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 312 new COVID-19 cases in the city of Goodyear this week, bringing the total number of cases to 14,688 since the start of the pandemic. 

The number of weekly cases in Goodyear is a slight decrease from last week, when 340 cases were reported in the city between Sept. 3 and Sept. 10. 

Daily Goodyear case numbers are calculated by adding together the ADHS reported case numbers in ZIP code 85338 and ZIP code 85395.  

More than 90% of cases were mapped to the address of the patient's residence.

In Goodyear ZIP code 85395, about 69.1% of the eligible population have received their first dose and 62.9% have received their second or final dose.

In Goodyear ZIP code 85338, about 65.4% of the eligible population have received their first dose and 58.7% have received their second or final dose.

4,395,495 people in Maricopa County received a COVID-19 vaccine between Sept. 7 and Sept 14. 

To date, 4,395,495 people have been vaccinated in Maricopa County as of Sept. 14, according to county data.

About 50%, or 2,197,867 doses, was the first dose of a two-series vaccine (Pfizer–BioNTech and Moderna). About 48%, or 2,098,221 doses, was the second dose of a two-series vaccine, or a dose of a single-shot vaccine (Janssen). The status of 1.2%, or 52,305 administered doses, was unknown. 1.1%, or 47,102 doses, were a booster shot for an immunocompromised individual.

Nearly 9,000 people were given the COVID-19 booster shot between Sept. 7 and Sept. 14, according to county data. 

While demand for the vaccine has dropped since its peak in April, more people in Maricopa County have received at least one vaccine dose than people who have not received any doses, according to county officials.

State and county-wide COVID case numbers

While the percentage of positive COVID-19 tests in Arizona has been rising slightly since the beginning of the month, death rates have been dropping since May, according to Mayo Clinic data.

The percentage of positive COVID-19 tests were around 5% in early June, peaked at 12.8% in early Aug., decreased again to 10.6% on Sept. 8, and is currently around 11.34%.

COVID-19 death rates, on the other hand, were 2% in May and fell to 1.83% as of Sept. 16. 

The majority of COVID cases and fatalities occur in Maricopa County, the state’s most populous county. Maricopa County has seen 673,511 total cases and 11,126 dead since Jan. 2020. This week, 14,037 new COVID-19 cases were reported and 246 people were reported dead, according to data from ADHS.  

Last week, the county saw nearly 11,000 new cases and 93 deaths.
