Adams elected vice mayor in Tempe

Posted

Tempe City Councilmember Jennifer Adams was elected as the city’s next vice mayor.

The election came on July 1, as Adams was sworn in for her second term on the council, alongside newcomers Berdetta Hodge and Arlene Chin. She won reelection in March after serving for the past four years.

Current Vice Mayor Randy Keating nominated Adams for what he called the “honorary title," which was quickly seconded by Hodge.

The measure passed 6-0, with Councilmember Joel Navarro absent from the proceedings. Adams will serve as vice mayor until 2024.

Prior to her service on council, Adams worked for the city of Tempe for 29 years.

“It’s hard to believe it’s already been four years since I was sworn in as Tempe’s newest councilmembers,” she said following the election. “One thing that hasn’t changed is how honored I feel to be up here again. I’m looking forward to this new leadership role.”
