Abrazo West Campus donates cereal to Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank

Hospital drive nets 3,500 servings for families in need

Posted

Abrazo West Campus in Goodyear just completed the hospital’s Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive, donating the equivalent of 3,500 servings of healthy cereal to Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank.

The past year has been particularly devastating for families struggling with hunger as the COVID-19 pandemic impacted many communities already facing food shortages, according to a release.

Summer is a particularly difficult time because many children in need can no longer rely on school meals for a nutritious breakfast. Whole-grain cereal, as part of a balanced breakfast, helps address the hunger gap during summer months when children are not in school.

“The cereal drive recognizes that hunger doesn’t take a vacation when children are home from school during the summer months. Beginning each day with a nutritious breakfast is important every day of the year,” said Abrazo West Campus COO Noomi Hirsch. “Good nutrition is essential to good health, and our staff stepped up to help lead the fight against hunger.”

Abrazo West Campus, 13677 W. McDowell Road, is a Level I trauma Center and Primary Plus Stroke Center, with orthopedics, spine, stroke, cardiology, general surgery, maternity and other services serving West Valley communities and beyond.

It is also a teaching hospital, with doctors from Abrazo’s emergency medicine, general surgery and internal medicine residency programs completing rotations at Abrazo West.
