Independent Newsmedia
A 2-year-old girl is dead following a drowning incident in Glendale.
The incident happened the afternoon of Wednesday, April 8 near 53rd and Northern avenues.
Glendale police said officials responded to reports of a child who was found in a pool and not breathing.
Police and fire paramedics arrived to find the father providing CPR. Paramedics treated the child and transported her to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Detectives form the Homicide and Death Investigations Squad responded and took over the investigation. They learned the 2-year-old girl, her mother and her 5-year-old brother were at home in the backyard. The father was also in the backyard working on renovations.
At one point, police said the mother went inside, leaving the children outside with their father. The father then went to look for his children and realized his daughter was in the pool.
Police said there was no pool fence in the backyard and no child safety lock on the doors.
