A 17-year-old is dead after an illegal party in Glendale led to an officer-involved shooting.

No officers were injured.

Around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Glendale police responded to multiple calls of shots fired near 67th and Northern avenues.

A Glendale officer with four years of experience was the first to arrive on scene. He reported about 200 people fleeing the area from an illegal party in the industrial district and estimated around 100 cars were present.

The officer observed multiple people firing into the crowd. That officer then enaged Levy Isaac Madueno Santibanez, 17, who police said was actively firing a handgun. The officer then shot at Santibanez at least four times, injuring him. Other officers rendered medical aid and performed life-saving efforts, but Santibanez died at the scene.

Glendale police initially described the shooter as an adult male but later said he was 17.

Police said they found a firearm on Santibanez. The officer was not injured from the shooting.

Around the time of the officer-involved shooting, other officers were arriving on scene. One of those responding officers attempted to follow a fleeing vehicle. As the officer was approaching the vehicle, he was struck by the driver of the vehicle, which initiated a pursuit, police said.

The vehicle was located with individuals inside but the driver and a passenger fled on foot. Officers checked the area but were not able to locate those individuals. That officer received minor injuries and is being treated.

Police said detectives have located about 60 rounds of spent shell casings from at least five different firearms.

"The majority of attendees fled the scene," spokeswoman Tiffany Ngalula stated. "As the scene is being processed we will be able to determine what vehicles belong to the businesses and which do not.

"There are only a few witnesses who remained on scene."

Glendale police encourage anyone who was at the party and/or was injured, or who knows any information about any of the shooters, to call 623-930-3000.
