Better Business Bureau Serving the Pacific Southwest and Salt River Project recently honored 10 Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps students and their programs as part of BBB’s Ethical Cadet Scholarship Program.

Recipient cadets are awarded for their leadership, character, commitment to service and actions that go beyond the call of duty, according to a release.

“The BBB Ethical Cadet Scholarship has been an incredible opportunity to share the lessons I have learned from the JROTC over the past four years. The scholarship has allowed me to set money aside for college and provide funds for my school’s JROTC,” Ryan Novoa, a 2022 scholarship recipient, said in the release.

BBB Ethical Cadet Scholarship winners for the 2021-22 school year are:

  • Abigail Cramer from Higley High School in Gilbert;
  • Ramiro Felix from Westview High School in Avondale;
  • Evelyn Frost from Campo Verde High School in Gilbert;
  • Alexander McDermott from Gilbert High School in Gilbert;
  • Ryan Novoa from Tolleson Union High School in Tolleson;
  • Cole Pierce from Higley High School in School in Gilbert;
  • Hayden Pride from Apache Junction High School in Apache Junction;
  • Kassidee Shaw from Skyline High School in Mesa;
  • Ryan Tran from Tolleson Union High School in Tolleson; and
  • Sheneal Woolery from Mesa High School in Mesa.

Arizona high school students who are enrolled in a JROTC program within SRP’s service area, while maintaining a GPA of at least 2.75, were eligible to apply for the scholarship. Students submitted a recommendation letter by a JROTC staff member or school representative and winners were selected based on their essay submission. Winning essays highlighted the students’ leadership, character, and commitment to service.
